Pimp my Room

Ah, the brilliance that comes out of PSU. OK, so this isn't a TV reality show, but gosh darn it, I think it's extremely creative and why wouldn't it be because it was concocted by a couple of college fellows from the great university in Pennsylvania. Penn State, home of the Nittany Lions. I think this is an awesome idea guys. Very cool.

Check out their story and website:

I have to say....."I want the Corona lamp for myself, thank you very much."

*smile*

Can I have a freebie lol I'll even bring the limes.

Another MLM in the making?

They compare themselves to home based businesses such as Avon and
Mary Kay cosmetics, but I guess I'd have to reread this article
to make an educated decision. I know many women who know how to
use a drill and hammer efficiently. If nothing else, this is
what I REALLY call empowering women!!!

Click the title name for the article.

Heating alternatives-Corn Burning

Corn-burning/multi-fuel insert which she and her husband recently
installed this insert into their fireplace. They live in a big old
house with a natural gas boiler and radiators. In the coldest months,
Jan. and Feb. last year and the year before, their combined Gas/Electric
bill was over $400 for one month, and they don't use much electricity,
it was mostly the boiler! They went on the "level-pay-plan" or
"budget plan" which their power company offers, so now, they were
paying like $182 every month, instead of the bill being super high in
the winter months and having low bills in the summer. Going on the
budget plan, helped them to spread the payment out over time, BUT they still wanted to pay less, so they got a corn-burner, as corn is
abundant and cheap supply where they live in Central IL. Lots of the
farmers have surplus and are willing to sell it to them directly.

The kind they purchased was a Countryside Stove. The one they purchased was a fireplace insert, but they also make free-standing sotves. They got their unit, used from another family friend,
and the used price was $1500. Installation and some pellets and
"gel starter fluid" was around $550. They figure it will pay for
itself with the decrease in heating bills, in 3-4 years, and that
is pretty good.

The brochure indicates that it will burn shelled corn (kernels, not ON
the cob) - dried, <15% moisture content burns most efficiently),
wood pellets (basically sawdust and leftover bits form furniture and
lumber manufacturing places, compressed into little cylindrical
pellets), cherry pits, waste paper pellets, and "a host of other
fuels" it says.

More about corn-burning:

"Corn Comparison:
An average home will burn 85 to 150 bushels of corn
a season, depending on temperature, size of home,
insulation, and placement of unit.

1 bushel of shelled corn = 5.0 gallons of LP gas
or 3.4 gallons of Fuel Oil
or 140 kilowatt hours of Electricity
or 4.75 C.C.F. of Natural Gas

It burns very efficiently, too, one bushel of corn makes only one
pound of ash.

A friend who they bought their unit from, has been heating his
whole house with a corn burning unit for the past 4 years. It is
a free-standing one, and has it in his attached garage. He just
puts a box-fan in the doorway into the house and blows the heat in.
He still has gas and electric service, but only pays a few dollars
a month for that access. In fact, the power company has come and
changed his meter 3 times since he has had the corn-burner, because
they think he is tampering with it, because he is using so little
of the pay for power. He hasn't told them he has a corn burner. He
enjoys watching the confused meter-readers in the dead of winter!
*chuckle* They must think he is an eskimo and just doesn't heat
his house!

Corn burning units emits sort of a sweet smell, very different than
wood-burning, and there is not kreosote or soot. Also, because it
is inside a self-contained unit and burns so efficiently, there is
very little waste. The ashes fall down into a little pan and then
you can dump them on your gardens as fertilizer, or throw them out,
they are not toxic to the environment. Occasionally you have to pull
a "clinker" out of the fire-box, the sugar naturally found in corn.
When burned, corn will make these little chunks that are too big to
fall through into the ash pan, and you have to clean them out. You
can also purchase a metal ash vaccuum to assist in the cleaning.

Also, corn in a bucket seems much easier to refill and haul in
compared to big ole logs and stuff :-)

Austin, PA Police chief busted for stealing pot

The police chief of the borough of Austin resigned Tuesday and is jailed today after being arrested for allegedly stealing two pounds of marijuana.

Shawn Henry Foringer, 26, allegedly stole the marijuana from the Austin Borough Police Station and reported that it was stolen during a burglary last Thursday, according to Coudersport-based State Police.

Officials said Foringer was suspended from his position Monday and was charged Tuesday with violation of the Drug, Device and Cosmetic Act and theft by unlawful taking, both felonies. He also was charged with making false reports to law enforcement officials and was remanded to Potter County Jail in Coudersport in lieu of $50,000. Officials said today that Foringer had not posted bail and remained in jail.

Trooper Scott Henry, a public information officer for the Pennsylvania State Police in Mansfield, said he believes Foringer had worked for the Austin Police Department for approximately three years.

He said Foringer was cooperative with investigators after it was discovered that he had falsely reported that the marijuana had been stolen during a burglary at the department.

Foringer had initially reported the burglary to Austin Borough Mayor Albert Gledhill late Wednesday and that information was relayed to the State Police Thursday.

“It’s a very tough situation, it’s bad enough when it’s a normal situation ... but when you have a law enforcement perspective, it’s very difficult,” Tpr. Henry said today.

This just amazes me how some people can be sooooooo stupid, especially in a small town and believe me, I've been to that town, good ole Austin, PA and it's small. I just chuckle over the "duh" ness of this all. I have a high respect for police officers in general and yes I do know there are crooked ones out there. I wonder how much there was? Was he the local pot dealer in town?

Anchor Bar - Chicken Wings are movin'

Chicken wing's birthplace is ready to spread its wings. This is an exciting
move for the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY. I am looking forward to this. It's about time. When I used to live in the Washington, DC area, I always wanted some "real Buffalo Wings" I think this is a great move on the Anchor Bar's part. It's
always nice to have a little bit of home with you when you're living in another
city. It's heartwarming and let me tell ya, these wings are guaranteed to warm
your heart. :-)

It's the restaurant where Buffalo wings took flight. Now the Anchor Bar may be coming to a city near you.

The Main Street restaurant that deep fried and drenched in hot sauce the first batch of chicken wings in 1964 is ready to offer franchises. It's the traveling Buffalonian's lament that good wings can't be found away from home _ wrong size, not crisp, too much sauce, too little, too hot, not hot enough.

But "If you have wings (at a franchise) in Delray Beach, Fla., or wings in Seattle, Wash., they're going to taste exactly the way they taste at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York," promised John Veyette, president of the Anchor Bar Franchise Co.

Not only will franchisees get their wings from specific buyers and use only authentic Anchor Bar sauce, bottled in Rochester, they'll be required to cook the wings in a specific _ and secret _ way. Veyette wouldn't describe the cooking method, except to say it involves more than a toss into the deep fryer.

The Anchor Bar will offer three franchise models: a full-scale replica of the original restaurant that includes a bar, a smaller version without a separate bar and an "express" version to fit in food courts, casinos and arenas. Franchise fees range from $20,000 to $49,500. The company's franchise offering recently was accepted by the state Department of Law.
